NBC Universal announced on its website on Saturday that residents of Japan have express permission to create derivative works of the TV anime series Serial Experiments Lain for non-commercial fan activities until July 2028 as part of an 'Open Source Project.'
To me Serial Experiments Lain resembles those books one reads in high school English class that are supposed to be eye-opening but actually just sweep past the brain and go out the other ear. I know the series is meant to be a mindfuck but I was wondering if watching it in English might actually help? or does the dub lose to much in translation , or the dub acting is bad? |

Offline Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 7759 | I believe the dub is legally available for free, so I can't see how it'd be hard to find. Anyways, the dub isn't very good, as the voices are rather poor. At the same time, its acceptable, and the only really bad voice actor is the mother. I don't know how accurate the translation is or how the sub compares, but the dub isn't too bad. I'm not certain the dub is legally available for free, but I think it may on hulu or youtube. |

Offline Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 2439 | The quality of the voice acting in the dub is very good and the translations, when compared to the subs, are accurate. You could go for either one really. I prefer the sub because I feel the VA for Lain was better at portraying the subtle differences in Lain's personality as the series progressed, but again, you can't go wrong with either. Oh, and you posted in the wrong board. |

I'd say the English dub is listenable, but unless you're a diehard dub fan, the Japanese version will be somewhat better for you.
